Recent Project – Metal Roof Restoration Mount Martha
Full Metal Roof Restoration: Rusted and Faded Roof Brought Back to Life in Mount Martha
We recently completed this metal roof restoration in Mount Martha on an ageing metal roof that had become heavily faded, oxidised and affected by rust in multiple areas.
The roof required thorough cleaning, rust treatment and surface preparation before repainting could begin.
After preparation, the entire roof received one coat of metal primer followed by two top coats of premium Regent Ultra in Woodland Grey.
The Woodland Grey finish restored a consistent colour across the weathered metal roofing and gave the home a much cleaner and more contemporary appearance.
Project Overview
Location: Mount Martha, Victoria
Roof material: Metal roofing
Roof condition: Faded, oxidised and affected by surface rust
Work completed: High-pressure cleaning, rust treatment, surface preparation, priming and roof painting
Rust treatment: Rusted areas prepared before coating
Primer: One coat of metal primer
Top coats: Two coats of premium Regent Ultra
Colour: Woodland Grey
High-Pressure Metal Roof Cleaning
The restoration began with a thorough high-pressure roof clean to remove accumulated dirt, salt deposits, chalking paint and loose surface contamination from the existing metal roof.
Correct preparation is particularly important before metal roof painting because deteriorated coatings, contamination and oxidation can affect how the new coating system bonds to the surface.
Cleaning also allowed us to properly inspect the roof and identify the areas of rust requiring additional preparation.
Rust Treatment and Surface Preparation
Several sections of the existing metal roof showed signs of rust and oxidation.
These areas were prepared and treated before priming so the new roof coating was being applied over a sound and properly prepared surface.
Surface preparation is an important part of restoring an older metal roof, particularly where the existing paint finish has deteriorated and exposed areas of the underlying metal.
Any necessary roof repairs should be completed before the roof painting system is applied.
Metal Primer Application
After cleaning, rust treatment and preparation were complete, the entire roof received one coat of metal primer.
The primer provides the prepared metal surface with the correct foundation for the finishing coats and forms an important part of the complete coating system.
On this project we are simply describing the product as a metal primer, as the key point is that the roof was correctly primed before the Regent Ultra top coats were applied.
Three-Coat Regent Ultra Metal Roof Painting System
Once the roof had been prepared and primed, we applied two finishing coats of Regent Ultra in Woodland Grey.
The complete coating system consisted of:
1 coat – Metal primer
2 top coats – Regent Ultra
Colour – Woodland Grey
Regent Ultra is the premium Regent topcoat used on this Mount Martha metal roof restoration.
The two Regent Ultra top coats provided the final colour and protective finish, transforming the faded and patchy metal roof into a much more consistent surface.

Why Woodland Grey Was Chosen
The roof was finished in Woodland Grey, one of the most commonly selected darker roof colours for Australian homes.
On this Mount Martha property, Woodland Grey gave the restored metal roof a clean and understated finish that suited the coastal setting and surrounding exterior colours.
Because metal roofing has a relatively smooth surface, Woodland Grey appeared particularly even across the large roof area.
Homeowners considering the same colour can see more examples and information on our Woodland Grey roof colour page.
Woodland Grey on Metal Roofing
Roof colour can appear slightly different depending on the roofing material, surface texture, surrounding colours and available light.
On a smooth metal roof, Woodland Grey generally presents as a clean and consistent finish because there is less surface texture than on a tiled roof.
Cement roof tiles have a more pronounced shape and texture, which can create additional shadows and variation across the finished roof.
The actual appearance of any roof colour will also vary depending on sunlight, roof pitch and the colours surrounding the home.
The Finished Mount Martha Metal Roof Restoration
The completed restoration transformed an ageing, weathered metal roof into a much cleaner and more consistent Woodland Grey finish.
The project included:
High-pressure roof cleaning
Removal of loose surface contamination
Rust treatment and preparation
One coat of metal primer
Two coats of premium Regent Ultra
Woodland Grey finish
The completed Mount Martha roof restoration significantly improved the presentation of the existing metal roof while retaining the original roofing rather than replacing it.
Metal Roof Restoration in Mount Martha
Metal roofs in Mount Martha and other Mornington Peninsula suburbs can experience prolonged exposure to UV, wind, moisture and coastal air.
Over time, existing coatings can fade and chalk, while exposed areas of metal may develop surface rust.
Where the underlying roof remains suitable, professional metal roof painting can involve high-pressure cleaning, rust treatment, roof repairs, surface preparation, priming and two finishing coats.
Enhanced Paint & Roof Restoration provides metal roof restoration and roof painting in Mount Martha, along with roof repairs and roof cleaning throughout the Mornington Peninsula.
Established in 2006, we restore cement tile, terracotta and metal roofs throughout Mount Martha, Mornington, Mount Eliza, Safety Beach, Dromana, McCrae, Rosebud and surrounding areas.

This Mount Martha metal roof was high-pressure cleaned before rusted and oxidised areas were treated and prepared. One coat of metal primer was then applied followed by two top coats of premium Regent Ultra in Woodland Grey.
What roof paint was used on this Mount Martha project?
We used Regent Ultra, Regent’s premium roof topcoat. Two coats of Regent Ultra in Woodland Grey were applied over a dedicated metal primer.
How many coats were applied to the metal roof?
Three coats were applied in total: one coat of metal primer followed by two top coats of Regent Ultra.
What colour was used on this Mount Martha roof?
The metal roof was finished in Woodland Grey, giving the faded and weathered roof a much cleaner and more consistent appearance.
Was rust treated before the roof was painted?
Yes. Rusted and oxidised areas were prepared and treated before the primer and finishing coats were applied.
Why is metal roof preparation important before painting?
Existing dirt, chalking coatings, oxidation and rust can affect the condition of the surface. Cleaning and preparation allow the primer and finishing coats to be applied to a properly prepared metal roof.
Is Regent Ultra different from Regent Tileguard Standard?
Yes. They are different products within Regent’s roof coating range. Regent Ultra is the premium topcoat used on this Mount Martha metal roof restoration, while Tileguard Standard is Regent’s standard coating option.
Our Regent vs Nutech vs Dulux Acratex vs Premier roof paint comparison explains the different systems in more detail.
Can an existing metal roof be restored instead of replaced?
Often, yes. If the existing metal roofing remains in suitable condition, cleaning, rust treatment, repairs, priming and repainting can restore its appearance without replacing the entire roof.
Do you provide metal roof restoration in Mount Martha?
Yes. Enhanced Paint & Roof Restoration provides metal roof restoration, roof painting, roof cleaning and roof repairs in Mount Martha and throughout the Mornington Peninsula.
