Cement Tile Roof Restoration in Carrum Downs – A Fresh Beige Finish
We recently completed this roof restoration in Carrum Downs, transforming an existing cement tile roof with a fresh Beige finish using Regent Tileguard.
While darker roof colours such as Monument and Woodland Grey remain popular, Beige was a refreshing change. The lighter colour complemented the home’s existing brickwork beautifully, creating a clean, balanced appearance that suited the property.
Beyond its appearance, Beige is also worth considering for its potential thermal benefits. Light-coloured roofs generally reflect more sunlight and absorb less solar heat than darker roofs, making them an option for homeowners concerned about summer temperatures and energy efficiency.
This Carrum Downs project involved high-pressure cleaning, roof repointing and professional cement tile roof painting using a complete three-coat system.
The result was a beautifully restored roof that demonstrated how effective a lighter, neutral roof colour can be.

Scope of Works
High-Pressure Roof Cleaning
The first stage of this restoration was professional high-pressure roof cleaning to remove accumulated dirt and surface build-up from the existing cement roof tiles.
Thorough pressure cleaning is an important part of roof restoration because it prepares the existing tiles for the new coating system.
Proper surface preparation helps achieve consistent sealer application and provides a suitable foundation for the finishing coats.
Roof Repointing
The existing roof was also repointed as part of the restoration.
Repointing helps secure and weatherproof the ridge and hip capping, protecting the existing mortar beneath from weather exposure.
Completing this work before painting ensures that important maintenance and repair requirements are addressed rather than simply changing the roof’s appearance.
Three-Coat Roof Painting System
Once the cleaning and repointing were completed, the cement roof tiles were ready for their new roof painting system.
The roof received:
1 sealer coat + 2 top coats of Regent Tileguard in Beige.
The initial sealer coat prepared the cement tile surfaces for painting and provided the foundation for the finishing coats.
Two coats of Regent Tileguard were then applied to achieve consistent colour coverage and a protective finish.
The Beige colour created a noticeable transformation, providing a softer alternative to the dark roof colours commonly chosen for modern roof restorations.
Why Choose Beige for a Cement Tile Roof?
Beige is a light, neutral roof colour that works particularly well with traditional brick homes.
For this Carrum Downs property, the finished roof complemented the existing brickwork without dominating the home’s exterior.
Although darker roof colours remain popular, lighter colours are worth considering for both their appearance and potential thermal benefits.
Beige provides a softer alternative to white while maintaining a bright, neutral finish.
Can a Beige Roof Help Keep Your Home Cooler?
One of the advantages of choosing a lighter roof colour is its ability to generally reflect more sunlight and absorb less solar heat than darker colours.
During Melbourne’s warmer months, roof surfaces can become extremely hot when exposed to direct sunlight.
Darker roofs typically absorb more solar energy, while lighter surfaces can help reduce heat absorption.
Choosing a lighter roof colour such as Beige may provide several benefits:
Reduced solar heat absorption: Light-coloured roofs generally reflect more sunlight
