Recent Project – Cement Tile Roof Restoration Frankston
Ageing Cement Tile Roof Restored in Nutech Ironstone
We recently completed this roof restoration in Frankston on an ageing cement tile roof that needed cleaning, repairs, repointing and repainting.
Years of weather exposure had left the roof faded and tired, with moss and dirt build-up, damaged tiles and sections of cracked ridge pointing. After completing the necessary roof repairs, the roof was finished with a three-coat Nutech roof coating system consisting of one coat of Nutech primer followed by two top coats of Nutech roof paint in Ironstone.
The deep blue-grey Ironstone finish completely refreshed the appearance of the older cement tiles and gave the home a cleaner, more modern look.
Project Overview
Location: Frankston, Victoria
Roof material: Cement roof tiles
Roof condition: Aged, faded and weathered with moss and dirt build-up
Work completed: Roof cleaning, tile repairs, repointing and roof painting
Repairs: Damaged tiles and deteriorated sections of ridge pointing
Primer: One coat of Nutech primer
Top coats: Two coats of Nutech roof paint
Colour: Ironstone
High-Pressure Roof Cleaning
The restoration began with a thorough high-pressure roof clean to remove built-up dirt, moss, lichen and surface contamination from the cement tiles.
Proper roof cleaning is an important part of a cement tile restoration because the existing surface needs to be thoroughly prepared before repairs, priming and painting can be completed.
Cleaning also allowed us to properly inspect the roof and identify damaged tiles and areas of ridge pointing that required attention.
Cement Tile Roof Repairs and Repointing
Once the roof had been cleaned and inspected, we completed the necessary repairs.
Damaged tiles were repaired or replaced where required, while deteriorated sections of ridge pointing were repointed using flexible roof pointing.
Flexible pointing helps secure the ridge capping while allowing for the small amount of natural movement that occurs across a tiled roof.
Completing these repairs before roof painting means the restoration addresses the condition of the roof rather than simply applying new paint over existing problems.
Three-Coat Nutech Roof Painting System in Ironstone
After the roof had been cleaned, repaired and prepared, we applied one coat of Nutech primer followed by two top coats of Nutech roof paint in Ironstone.
The primer provides the prepared cement tile surface with the appropriate base for the finishing coats, while the two top coats provide the final colour and protective finish.
Ironstone is a deep blue-grey roofing colour that gave the older cement tiles a much sharper and more consistent appearance.
The completed three-coat Nutech system restored colour to the faded roof and gave the home a cleaner, more modern finish.
The Finished Frankston Roof Restoration
The transformation was substantial.
What started as an old, faded and weathered cement tile roof was thoroughly cleaned, repaired, repointed, primed and finished with two top coats of Nutech roof paint in Ironstone.
The completed Frankston roof restoration has refreshed the appearance of the home while helping maintain and protect the existing cement tile roof.
For homeowners with an older cement tile roof, restoration can be a practical option when the underlying roof remains suitable but requires cleaning, repairs and a new protective coating system.
